Hi all

Today’s puzzle is titled “Two for the Show.” The theme answers are common phrases made up of the last names of singers imagined as duos.

18a [Rock/country duo Tom & Johnny?] – PETTY CASH.

24a [R&B/rap duo Percy & MC?] – SLEDGE HAMMER.

39a [New wave/country duo Adam & Faith?]  – ANT HILL

50a [Pop/rockabilly duo Christopher & Chubby?]  – CROSS CHECKER

60a [Folk/grunge duo Neil & Courtney?]  – YOUNG LOVE

That would be one weird concert.

Canadian content:

22a [Born, in Beauce] – NEE. Beauce is a region near Quebec City.

32a [Governor General’s name on a football cup] – GREY. The Canadian Football League champion wins the Grey Cup every year, except for 2020, as the CFL’s season has been cancelled.

38a [Hockey Central’s MacLean] – RON. Co-host of Coach’s Corner with Don Cherry for over 30 years.

55a [Instrument in A&W ads] – TUBA. Is this a Canadian thing, or do the American commercials also have a tuba?

64d [National grant-giving org.] – PFC. Philanthropic Foundations Canada. I must confess I haven’t heard of this before now.

2d [Baroness Barbara, wife of Conrad Black] – AMIEL. A long-time magazine columnist.

6d [Ont. Rep at Queen’s Park] – MPP. Member of Provincial Parliament. Most other provinces call them a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) so remember that one too.

56d [Gretzky’s alma mater, for short] – U OF A. Well, he has an honorary degree from the University of Alberta. And if I have to tell you who Wayne Gretzky is, you might be doing the wrong puzzles.

57d [“Uncle _____” (John Candy film)] – BUCK. John Candy was a great Canadian comedian.

61d [Ontario’s cap. city region] – GTA. Greater Toronto Area, population over 6,000,000. I lived there from 1985-1993.

Not Canadian content:

29d [Opposite of bow-legged] – KNOCK KNEED. I like answers with lots of K’s. Must be because of my last name.

52d [_____ Horse (Ride a Cowboy)” (Big & Rich hit)] – SAVE A. 2004 song so I don’t know it Only reached number 11 on the Billboard Country charts, yet it sold over 2,000,000 units. And that’s all I can say about this in a G-rated column.

Tip of the Week

You may know that most puzzles are symmetric, but did you notice that most theme answers are as well? If there are an odd number of theme answers as in this grid, one of them [ANT HILL] has to go right in the middle to maintain symmetry.

As always if you need more help just leave a comment.
