Hi all!

Jeffrey here.

“Shift Work” is this week’s puzzle title, and each theme answer moves the “R” from the second letter to the last letter of the final word of a common phrase to create an amusing phrase related to a line of work. Easy for me to say.

20a [Daredevil doing a pike on a bike?] – TWO-WHEEL DIVER (two-wheel drive).

31a [Who to call when the birthday cake flops?] – EMERGENCY BAKER (emergency brake).

37a [Spoken word act involving a portrait model?] – POETRY AND POSER (poetry and prose).

54a [One embarrassed to be waiting around?] – BLUSHING BIDER (blushing bride).

Canadian content:

45a [“Spring ahead” hrs, in Que.] – EDT. Eastern Daylight Time.

57a [Phrase repeated by Atwood’s handmaids] – PRAISE BE. Canadian author Margaret Atwood, writer of A Handmaid’s Tale.

59a [B.C. singer Alex Cuba, for one] – LATINO. Real name, Alex Puentes, born in Cuba. Moved to Victoria, BC and then relocated to Smithers, BC. I’ve had two staff members move from Victoria to Smithers. For a small place, I sure hear about a lot of people moving there.

32d [Canadian levy since 1991] – GST. Goods and Services Tax. If you have been reading this blog, you knew that one.

44d [“Only in Canada? Pity” tea] – RED ROSE.

Tip of the Week:

If you want more puzzles and chat with other crossword lovers, the Boswords Fall Themeless League starts next Monday. It has 3 levels, Stormy (very hard), Choppy (hard) and Smooth (ClassiCanadian Crossword level of difficulty.)

See you next week!
