Hi all you good buddies!
Jeffrey here.
“Two-way talk” is this week’s puzzle title and the theme answers all start with CB lingo, as mentioned at 52a [Radio users whose lingo is featured in this theme]– CB’ERS.
18a [Having no recourse]– OVER A BARREL. OVER – I have stopped talking.
24a [Ctrl+C, then Ctrl+V?]– COPY AND PASTE. COPY – I understand.
39a [Not involved in any way]– OUT OF THE PICTURE. OUT – signing off.
52a [“Ditch the conceit, buddy”]– CHECK YOUR EGO. CHECK – got it.
61a [“Framed” toon in red overalls]– ROGER RABBIT. ROGER – agreed.
For all you youngsters who think social media is a modern phenomena, the CB radio craze of the 1970’s was the first opportunity for the masses to talk to each other. I had one. I don’t remember my handle (like a twitter name).
Canadian content:
1a [Summer setting in Winnipeg] – CDT. Central Daylight time. Home of the Jets, who were swept by the Montreal Canadiens (the “Habs”).
47a [“The National” network] – CBC.
60a [Former Canucks Henrik or Daniel] – SEDIN. Twins and long-time stars.
6d [Word on the street in Québec] –RUE. Rue is simply street in French.
32d [The “Father of Manitoba”] – RIEL. Louis Riel.
36d [Goalie-turned-politician Dryden] – KEN. Another craze of mine in the 1970s was cheering on the Montreal Canadiens who won six(!) Stanley Cups in those 10 years. Ken Dryden, the goalie, one of many Hall of Famers on the greatest team ever, was my favorite player. He is also a great author.
48d [Canadian that gets drunk?] – BEER. Molson Canadian.
53d [Canadian-made eReaders] – KOBOS.
Tip of the Week:
Stay hydrated and Go Habs Go!
See you next week!
