Hi all.

Jeffrey here.

“Super Dupers” is this week’s puzzle title and you better watch your wallet; there a lot of shady characters punning up the theme answers.

17a [Fraud squad’s filming device?]  – SCAMCORDER (camcorder). Kids, a camcorder is what we used to make videos before we had IPhones. A phone was what we used to call people and hear their voice, like an oral text.

23a [Fraudster hired for quick contracts?]  – SHORT ORDER CROOK (short order cook).

35a [Fraudster’s shopping aid?] – SWINDLER’S LIST (Schindler’s List).

45a [Things seen at a white sale for fraudsters?] – CHEATS AND LINENS (sheets and linens).

54a [Shop sign hung by a work-shirking fraudster?] – CON FISHING (gone fishing).

Canadian content:

42a [Tegan and Sara] – DUO.  Twin sisters, another of those post-80’s musical acts I should know but don’t. An old-style phone can be seen in their video “I’ll be Back Someday.”

3d [Newfoundland’s southeastern peninsula] –AVALON.  Hey, I was there once.  As far east as you can get on the North American continent.

13d [“Crisis” mo. In Quebec, 1970] – OCT.  I was eight years old when it occurred and my mother took me to visit her sister in Detroit for safety, I guess. My father and older siblings stayed home.

22d [University at the foot of Mount Royal] – MCGILL. My brother Mark was likely attending McGill during the October Crisis.

33d [Pt. of G.S.T.] – GDS. Goods (Gds) and Services Tax. We’ve seen this before. Remember?

Tip of the Week

See above (watch your wallet).

See you next week!
