Hi all!
Jeffrey here.
“Animal Mutations” is this week’s puzzle title and the theme answers all take an animal and “mutate” the vowel into another word to create a wacky phrase.
17a [Fake news about a bulb-seeking flier?]– MOTH MYTH.
25a [Digs for a crustacean?]– CRAB CRIB.
32a [Certain school master?]– BASS BOSS. This could also describe Garry W. Tallent, bass player for Bruce (the Boss) Springsteen and the E-Street Band.
43a [Paw protector for a canine chef?]– MUTT MITT.
51a [It peeps poetically?]– BIRD BARD.
63a [Weasel living as a holy hermit?]– MINK MONK.
Canadian content:
23a [Part of CIBC: Abbr.] – COMM. Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce.
41a [Rep. at T.O.’s Queen’s Park] – MPP. Member of Provincial Parliament.
46a [Quebec Premier François] – LEGAULT.
[EDITED] 30d [Truro-to Peggy’s Cove dir.] –SSW. Both cities are in Nova Scotia.
49d [Inquiry led by Justice Murray Sinclair: Abbr.] – TRC. Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
Tip of the Week:
Know your Canadian abbreviations:
MPP is only used in Ontario. Quebec and Newfoundland and Labrador have MHAs, the other provinces have MLAs. Federally they are MPs.
See you next week!
